What do I need to know?
Hi guys, I'm new here and I'm also new to Italian auto collecting. Is there anything specific or special i should know about buying, maintaining, storing and collecting in general?
p.s. my time is off, because i didn't know what setting to choose during registration, might need some help with that later on.
thanks

Welcome aboard! I say start by finding what knives interest you. Once you have that narrowed down, you can ask more specific questions. Being mostly hand made, no two of the same, are exactly the same. Just like most of our opinions.

Welcome to our addiction. Information about brand, size, shape, material, storing, cleaning, lubing, fixing, mangling, tossing, argueing(oops), is all in here somewhere! Just read and take what you need.

Welcome to the forum.
First thing you need is a BIG cabinet to store your knives. When you think you find a nice big one.... Look for a bigger one (trust me)
second, as tempting as it may be....Don't buy the cheap crap!
third - make sure you post up some pics of your new knives, we like pics :

Re: What do I need to know?
I was wondering, in regards to Italian switchblades, if I order a knife with file working done, do i have to specify the design of the pattern, or does the maker already know what hes going to do? I'm not so sure, but if they do file working on the knife, especially on the spring, does it weaken it? any advice or opinions would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Re: What do I need to know?
I think there are only a couple people who will do that for you. If you can draw a design, it can be made into filework. The filing is actually the easy part of the operation. Getting the knife apart and put back together undamaged and in working order is the tough part.
I don't think filing would weaken the spring, If you ever get a chance to see the spring out of the knife, you'd agree!
