Hello from new member
Actually I've posted three times already. My particular "sicknesses" are small folders, small pen knives, mostly Case but many German makers. I've limited my collection to mostly what I wouldn't mind feeling in my pocket, which limits it to about 3 1/4" lth.
The other side is switchblades, traditional only, either Hubertus or Italian knives (I just got my first Deu Buoi!). One question, why is there not a legal discussion area in this forum?
I called a friend in law enforcement and he said that in my state (Oregon) it's not illegal to buy them, but carrying them is. Actually, he sent the Oregon statutes and I gathered that from what I read. Today I read that repairing switchblades, or sending them across state lines is illegal. What the heck? Do people who make up these laws not understand that most switchblade owners are guys like me, law abiding hard working collectors? Anyway, a forum area that discusses these things would be welcome to me at least. Thanks,
Glen

Howdy...Pa laws pretty much the same from what I gather.
Re: Hello from new member
Welcome! Does your screen name indicate that you're in the industrial sector? If so, me too.
I think the laws make perfect sense, from a Byzantine point of view, maybe. I seem to recall Catholic school nuns explaining the principle during the "render unto Caesar" lesson; If it's sensible, there doesn't need to be a law for it....If there's a law for it, it can't possibly be sensible. For example, here in NY, it's illegal to carry, but not to build (I sure as hell hope). To imagine carrying is legal, but to seriously consider carrying is punishable by death. Impersonating a switchblade will get you locked up, but pretending to agree that nuking Iran is perfectly OK will win you a Teddy Bear. If you grow state approved switchblades on a farm, you're entitled to a gigantic subsidy. Theraputic medical switchblades are tolerated, for the moment, unless a new political fad sweeps through the state ruling classes, then a fun loving pre war nazi tradition known colloquially as Kristalnacht would be re-enacted. Really, no further clarification should be necessary, it's all just common sense.
Hope you like it here.

Tom read this VERY carefully.....http://pweb.netcom.com/~brlevine/ny.txt
I manage real estate now, but was a NY LEO in my past life. It is always good to know the law. If you have a fishing/hunting/trapping license you can then possess them in your house and carry to and from those activites. Making them is a no no unless under contract to the government.
Yesterday I was in downtown Brooklyn at one of the shopping centers I manage, and a guy and his girlfriend walk by and I see a knife clip on the guys pocket. I stopped him and told him he could get arrested for an exposed knife. He thanked me for the info, and told me he had heard that from a friend and did not believe him.....In NYC knife arrest are now considered a good collar as a "weapons" arrest is a good statistic to have to off set an increase in robbery reports....nice right??

Tom,
Wow, I didn't realize the depth of my ignorance until I read the above. It looks like there's no way an average citizen can do what we're doing, except within strict limits, and not risk a fine and/or jail time. Thanks for providing this information.

Not trying to scare you ,but you should always know the law. I only buy non autos now, and any old knives are covered under the exception for me ( 265.20#6). A class A Misd carries up to one year in jail for each count.....
