Really cool piece there!!!!!!!! What is the purpose of the "extra wire" piece for the cap?

i think to hold it in place so door dont just flop around , it has like 3 positions to it( closed -half-open-full open), it is pretty cool upgraded design over ones without wire , i guess ones with wire are more rare than ones without the wire.

That makes sense. I had one of these before without the wire. The door/cap was still tight because the knife wasn't operated much, but I can see how that pivot point might loosen with time and use and flop around.
I'll be thinking about this one! Really neat piece and cool find!

Awesome knife. Beautiful condition. I'd love to have it if I had the cash right now.
