Wanted Front swivel Bolster for.9"Transitional

Post by gravknife »

Hello everbody at T.B

I hope someone can help me.

I know its a big ask but i have a minty bladed and horn 9inch transitional knife that is missing a front lined nickel swivel bolster.

I was wondering if someone may have a poor parts knife example they may part with that has a reasonable front bolster .

Also if anyone has any ideas on getting one made or someone who may have parts and how much they would be.... I would be very grateful for the help.

Thanks in advance for any help or suggestions

Ian

You might try exiledexports, don't know if it's.com or what but they will ship to England.
Could be roadsideexports but they have them, good luck, you may need it

Ian:

exiledexports.com has them I would call them on the telephone and reach them on the internet. They have what you want, and since it isn't an entire knife, I'd be willing to bet that It wouldn't catch the attention of British Customs.

Hi Ian do you have the original bolster that was on knife ? if you have the original you can send it to just about anyone and they can make you a new one out of nickel/silver . if you dont have the original you are going to have to send the knife to someone that can make a new one that will fit and work properly. just a heads up if you do find a old bolster it may or may not work as you would have to find one that is exact i mean exactly like yours and it must be same size i mean you can modify one if its to big etc.. but i think your best bet is to have one made you may find 10 old ones that dont work lol because they are to big too wide too small not wide enough lol the list is endless . Picklock Pat i think would do a awesome job if he is still making knives or doing restore jobs . let us know how it turns out .

Thanks METALGOD

I havnt got the original bolster unfortunately

Do you know I hadn't thought of the possibility of it not fitting as I am definitely no mangler and I assumed foolishly that one 9" transitional bolster would be pretty much interchangeable with another..There were that many makers in the Maniago cottage industry that I should have known better.

I am a little stuck when it comes to knife repair over here in England so I may have to call on one of my freinds in the US.like you suggested.

Thanks for taking a look Bernie and for the sound advice .
I hope your well

With the missing safety cap, I would say your best course of action would be to sell it to someone who looking for a knife to work on.

I have some if you still need one I'd part them they came off older 60's transitional knives . I'm not doing anything with them so you could have both for the price of a small shipping envelope and postage .

Jackalope

The stamps on both transitional knives is INOX ....both from France .
I got the black knife to compliment the yellow horn but it has a lot of problems as Jeremy said ...it cost nothing and I was going to try and get it back a lityle closer to its former glory .

wicollector

I have sent a PM my freind.

Thanks for looking and replying here

Regards

I have many new old stock items that came from a friend in Italy. If the ones from WIcollector don't work for you, please let me know.
