Re: Two DEALS on some nice Italians
I would say the Frank B stamp has been around more like 5 years.
My Special Edition Picklock has "2005" "Frank B" and it seems like I got my first Frank B stamp well before that.

I once had a 9" non-locking stiletto in red pearlex that had a "b rostfrei" stamp just like in this pic. I was told that it was one of Frank B's stamps in the 80's. If that's true, then he did make non-locking ones at one time. They are kinda cool regardless, pretty well built too.

Re: Two DEALS on some nice Italians
The "b" stamp is a Beltrame but which one
I believe the non-locking ones were made for a European country where LOCKING folders were prohibited but switches were lawfull
I wish that someone who [really] KNEW would join in

That would be helpful.
I can ask him about this stamp of Gunner's but I am reasonably sure that it is not Frank's.
I would like to see a good history of the Italian knives done and I have heard that there are people that would like to do it but don't really have the time...maybe some day.
The few books that there are help but flawed in several areas.

Re: Two DEALS on some nice Italians
Even a "hint" like "not ours" or "not Franks" would help
I have a 7" flatgrind [from AB/SKM] that reads:
Italy
Stainless [stamped] all caps
B [almost an "8"] done with an engraver, bolck letter - slightly angled
Rostfrei also done by engraver and in script, cap "R" the rest lowercase
Does this help or further confuse things

If this is the stamp that I am thinking it is...it is not Frank's.Vagrant wrote:Even a "hint" like "not ours" or "not Franks" would help

I had been looking for a non auto stiletto of Frank's sometime ago and someone found one marked (I think) like that On eBay in France. The seller had it listed as Frank Beltrame, I was excited and sent the auction to Frank for verification....what a mess!!
Frank said it wasn't his and wanted help setting the seller straight.

Re: Two DEALS on some nice Italians
I had asked Frank about this tang stamp awhile back and here is Frank Beltrame's reply.gunner wrote:I once had a 9" non-locking stiletto in red pearlex that had a "b rostfrei" stamp just like in this pic. Yes right is mine we used it from 1970 till 1990....now only sometimes....
Ciao

I know it is not FROM Frank.
And, too many of us forget the "cottage industy" nature of this product
AB/SKM SOLD it to me but who did they get it or the partts from
I am getting a little frustrated with people who assume/assure us that who they got something from, actually MADE it [completely] "in house"
This "just ain't likely" in many/most cases
But even in another decade, I expect to see somepne claim THEIR knife "made by---------"
NO, you ordered it from them
They MAY have assembled it BUT, the scales were made by "a" the blade by "b" the bolsters by "c" etc, etc,

Re: Two DEALS on some nice Italians
The 2001 TSF picklocks had "F Beltrame" on them. The first FRANK B stamp I have is on a 2003 picklock. Another stamp purportedly used by Frank was STILETTO ITALY. This is interesting.dave wrote:i believe, but not sure, that frank's 2002 picklocks were stamped frank b.Markco the Mad otter wrote:

Re: Two DEALS on some nice Italians
i stand corrected david. i believe that you are correct. renzo, the uncle or cousin i've heard both, currently uses the stiletto italy tang stamp. i do know that frank previously used the stiletto italy stamp.natcherly wrote:The 2001 TSF picklocks had "F Beltrame" on them. Re: Two DEALS on some nice Italians
We should not preclude the possibility that the "Stiletto Italy" stamp is used by whoever MAKES the blades, not by, who markets the knife
If one "Cutler" uses most of those blades - most of his knives will be stamped that way
