Where do I get brass pins?

Post by Snickers »

I have a cheap Chinese auto stiletto that has too short a brass pin holding the spring in place. It broke and now I need one.

In normal times you could probably go to a hobby shop if you didn't want to order online. Now it may be easier just to order off ebay or a one of the online supply places. Jantz supply, knifekits and others are popular. Just google brass pins or pin stock and you get about 27 gazillion results.

In a pinch you can use brazing rod, nails etc. I have even used copper or aluminum wire like romex you would wire a house with.

If you have a drill with a small enough chuck you can chuck up a larger diameter rod and turn it down to size with drill and sandpaper.

You'll have to measure the pin you want to replace.

I went through my box o bolts and found a brad. Just the right size where the point was sticking out enough to flatten. Not brass though it's only a $20 auto but it's working.

Turned out it wasn't a broken pin but lost.
