Herbertz stag handle switchblade

Post by galaxiejack63 »

Trying to find Information and/or value of a stag handled C. Jul Herbertz switchblade. I believe it's from the late 60's, early 70's.

Welcome to talkblade...
Need pictures and more info. What is the size?

Many of the Herbetz marked knives I have seen were made for the German market and have the shortened blade.

Terry is right we really need pictures .

Is the blade a swedge type like my Herbertz on the top picture .....or is it normal like the stag example shown in the bottom picture?

Is the swivel bolster which lifts the tab and unlocks the blade of the the knife lined with brass ?
If so being stag scaled I think it may well be a transitional and not the shorter bladed examples made for the German market.

Pictures please so we can have a look and get a better opinion than my guessing. :)

Welcome to talkblade galaxiejack63 pleased to meet you mate.

Thanks guys. It has a blade like the bottom knife. I'll post pics and size ASAP. A friend has it, doing research.

Thanks for the pictures galaxiejack63

It's a nice looking knife 8)

I believe this knife is definitely from the early 1970s and was made in italy for C Jul Herbertz to retail in Germany.
It has the normal length of blade so is more desirable than the shorter bladed examples plus the nice natural stag scales and a red dot safety switch, which people always seem to like
.
I don't think its a transitional but its very well made but someone with a bit more knowledge may say it is,most I have seen have swedge or bayonet blades .
Cant tell for sure but the bolsters look like nickel silver with that white oxidation ,a magnet won't stick on nickel and will to stainless if you try it .The swivel bolster looks lined aswell a sign of decent build quality imho.

I have never seen that specific type for sale where I bought all my knives so I can't give you a price but I am sure someone here will .Hopefully they may be able to give more info on it aswell.

I hope orangeboy doesnt mind but here is a herbertz catalogue from the 70s he kindly shared when I posted my Herbertz......Hirschorn is stag antler like yours and approx 18cm could be your type of knife.

Thanks again for sharing it .
Hope this helps a bit.
