While sugar sweetened soda may be contributing, probably the biggest by far is a lack of EXERCISE. Kids drive or are driven to school, the mall, etc. They get home from school and sit for hours playing video games, watching TV, working their iPads, etc. If you want a dietary bogey man I suggest French Fries which add far more calories and a whole lot of fat to the diet. Mayor "I know what's good for you" Mike wouldn't dare move against pommes frites.

I agree with Natcherly.
It's not so much the soda, though it isn't good for you by any stretch of the imagination. At least now a-days it dosent have things like lithium (or cocaine) in it.
The problem is parents thinking it fine to let the TV sit their kids, the kids spending too much time online or on the PS3/Xbox. If more young people would grab their Ipod and go on walks (or like me have to walk to get anywhere around town (I also use the bus and train)) then they would be fitter.
The other thing that pisses me off is ADD. School is boring, the Prussian system we use is in-conducive to learning. When we used to have a school house were groups of kids would go to learn (like in the 1860's) they found school fun and learned well. However in moder day we have a broekn school system and SOOO many distractions. Of course children are going to think of other things and have a hard time focusing when you have lessons that go on for 90 minutes (studies show children learn best in 45 minute session (per topic)) and and all these other things their thinking about (games, TV, etc...). and the best thing we've come up with is to give them phychotropic stimulants like Addreall which is just amphetamines, Rittlin/Concerta which is methylefinidate an analogue of cocaine (yes, we're giving kids a drug which functions exactly like cocaine in the body with a similar addiction potential), and the worst, desoxn, which is straight methampethamine (yes, meth which is neurotoxic and used by trailer park druggies).
There is SERIOUSLY something wrong with our society.

This is the magic incantation congress uses to constantly violate the 10th Amendment - "...the manufacture, sale, transportation, distribution, possession, or introduction into interstate commerce of such shall be prohibited"

Fourth Amendment (Amendment IV) to the United States Constitution: The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no Warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by Oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized.
That has been defined by the courts in various ways. In many ways I have to blame the people of NYC for continuing to vote Bloomberg into office.

This is a sad statement of what NYC has become. I suspect things are pretty much the same from where I'm typing this (Boston / Cambridge). I find it amusing when the folks here express a condescending attitude toward the Live Free Or Die state. My response is always along the lines of ...I like the laws of N.H. a whole lot better than the laws here. No doubt they look at me as a backward knife and gun toting N.C. resident By the way, they just banned school bake sales here

N.Y.C. and Boston are fighting each other, over who can be more [braindead] socialist
Re: NY Knife law enforcement at it best
As Al knows I am thinking of getting a place in NH to retire too and have as a summer place now....I am born and raised in NYC and at 52 years old this place is soo different than what it was. I will say it is cleaner and safer but at the cost of freedoms of many types being thrown by the wayside. We have been saddled with a dictator for a Mayor who wants to control every part of our lives, and a police commissioner who has no reguard for the laws he is sworn to protect. They believe in the "end justifies the means" no matter what the Constituion says....I always enjoyed the NY life style in that I could get to a good fishing lake in 30 minutes of driving, and could be in the heart of NYC in the same time. Now, the city is just not a nice place to be...Jim I wish "Mayberry" really exisited as I would move there today!

When I was about 10 my family took me to NYC. I was fascinated by all the knives [with the Empire State Buiding or Statue of Liberty printed on the scales].My mother said "you already have better knife". Mom was right and I bet, those days are long gone
