to me it kinda looks like it used to be some type of serving fork or something that maybe got broken and reground to a point and not a dagger from the start I may be wrong but it just dont look correct to me I think it looks french too from the design but it could be english does it have any marks on it at all?

The only marking that i see is right where the handle and the blade meet it looks like it says sterling. Not sure about how it would of been some kind of fork at one time.It really don't look like it was ever altered but at the same time i know that anything is possible. My grandfather always said it was a dagger. I know he was in the Navy but i don't know where he got it. My mother always wanted to know more about it and that's my motivation. I really appreciate any help i could get on this.

Go to Bladeforums.com and ask in Bernard Levines thread about your knife it looks like an old time French poignard (sp?) to me.I believe that the original stilettos had a three sided blade such as the one you have. Jim

I think all that commented are pretty darn close. You may have a valuable piece there.
French is the first thing that came to mind when I saw it and if the hilt/handle is silver then it is definitely valuable.

Keep us updated on your findings and good luck.

One more thing, DO NOT POLISH the handle or blade or you will severely diminish the collectability of your dagger. Jim

lionhear4123 any news on your dagger? I'm curious, I'm thinking French Poignard 1800s maybe. Or it could be a reproduction. Jim

No luck yet. I been searching everywhere and asking everyone but no one seems to know. I'm not sure where else to check. I'm starting to think its a lost cause :(

Look up a Bernard Levine on Google he is on several forums he is a knife expert and can tell you about your dagger but he will charge you for an estimate of it's worth if it is authentic. Jim

weren't there daggers during the 1700's that had a triangle blade? -in that the blade had three sharpened sides, like an arrow tip, except it looked more like a thick rod that had been concavely milled with three deep bores from tip to hilt.
that's what the blade on the above dagger reminded me of.
pretty piece, man! I'm glad you posted it!!!

Yes, there were. They were called stilettos.
This is not one of them. It's a piece of kitchen cutlery.

Its not kitchen cutlery. It has a matching sword that i'm trying to get a hold of. It was left to a uncle of mine that lives out of state. Going to have him send me some pictures and maybe someone will know more about when and where these are from.
