New Hampshire Fish and Game does do an above average job of raising Brook Trout with nice colors 8) A cheapo "keychain camera" or cellphone does not do them justice :(

 [no t-shirt]
But, the rod came with: sunglasses, tacklebox, backpack, and they are still, "mint in the box" when I give it to him 8)
It worked again 8) But is IS a difficult rod to use, very hard to get a good "hookset" or cast far :? It really needs, almost, an expert to effetively catch fish.
It might be better to get my nephew the [longer] 2-piece rod

The last fish really has some gorgeous coloration. Could the orange belly mean she has eggs?
I know some fish develop and orangish or reddish belly when they are full of eggs.

On the subject of eating fish- I know many guys that are avid fishermen but don't eat'em.
I prefer the "catch and release" theory in small streams, brooks etc.
As for eating fish,I love fish,I could eat them for breakfast. Trout, crappie, bluegill and walleye are my freshwater faves.
Scallops, shrimp, clams, crab, flounder, halibut, cod and a few others are my favorite ocean fish.

I don't like the idea of eating shark, bluefin, swordfish and fish that are killed just for their eggs(caviar).

Brookies are fall spawners so no eggs.
The orange just went low on the sides, like in the 2nd pic from the top [fist post].
Male brookies are usually [slightly] more colorful and you might need them side by side to tell - except in the fall spawn
The only fish I eat is [rarely] a Tuna sandwich
