Favorite Sword Design ?

Post by bigfifty »

Swords. I love them all. But as in everything I love one just a tiny bit more. And that would be the....Yataghan or however others spell it. Made of Wootz. Am not an authority on sword history so I do not know that much about its developement and evolution. Though Manfred Sachse, in his book, "Damascus Steel" identifies as being of Turkish-Caucasian origin. But the curve and sweep of its blade show such class, that I love it. Have never owned one, maybe never will. But its my favorite. A close second would be the 'Viking' style. Because this is my Heritage. Third ( I can have as many as I want ) would be the classic Cutlass.---- Arrrrrr. Matey Harrrrr. ( Pirate talk ). Again, classy looks wins me over. Fourth; would be the Japanese style. Could go on, but I'll let you get a word in. Take good care, Bigfifty.

Actually my favourite sword design is the straight 19th Century European military sabre.

I'm partial to the straight shorter 33-35" Tanto Ninja style sword.

I'm a Katana fan myself. Guess the avitar says it all.
It's not Japanese, but I've got a Marto that just gives me chills every time I hold it. Of all the blades in my collection, at the point of purchase I had waited longer to possess it than any other aquisition.

Best sword

I don't know I guess thats why I keep buying them :D but I would favor a shorter straight sword something like the Roman gladius however just a bit longer.

Personally I can't stand heavier swords. The Roman gladius is very heavy for its size. Guess it's something to do with my fencing upbringing.

A fairly customized katana style, carried with the edge down. Large brass cup-style guard, leather-wrapped grip. If I can get the pics up, I'd be glad to show it.
All based on an anime series!!! :D :D :D

Being a student of Iaido (Hoki_Ryu) i also prefer the Katana. Nothing else has the cutting power. :D

I'm more into the European style swords, especially the rapier (from my fencing past also, lol...). So much so that since I have to use a cane now mine is a 30" rapier sword-cane. I just have to avoid airports and government buildings. LOL
