Middle East fighting knife

Post by gravknife »

Hello all at TB

Was doing some Auction searching and came across a fighting knife I had never seen .
Love the blade shape and overall shape , and it just looks qualiy
Its made by Joseph Rodgers and maybe a one off as I have never seen this type before .
If anyone has sern them or maybe has more info on it would be grateful to know its history .
Looks to be 19th or early 20th century .

Very nice! I checked my knife books but can´t find anything like it.
But I think I have seen a knife with the same blade, but I think it was a different handle, Must have been on the internet, probably an antique shop, but can´t be more specific.

Thanks for looking mate .

I agree about the blade style looks kind of familiar but with possibly a private buyers request to Rodgers for the grip and adornments ,sheath etc .
Love the almost saw tooth backridge ,its a shame we brits don't make any knives of this quality anymore .

Heres a swiss army type knife in the same auction by lockwood brothers ,so well made and with intricate moving parts .

Interesting.
I've been involved with an ethnographic weapon forum for over 20 years; never seen anything like it.
Ergonomics are terrible for gripping, especially for a wet hand.
My guess would be that it's a one-off custom for presentation. It looks like it has never seen use.

If I had to guess the closest thing to that form would be Thailand or Burma, now Myanmar.
