I need help identifying and aging a Stiletto.

I have a older looking black handle brass rivets and steel button and slide lock stiletto I need help with. On the blade it has EdgeCo, Italian, Stainless etched on it. Please if you know anything about the company or the age because I tried looking it up but found very little to nothing much about it. Thank you in advance for all the help. Shawn

Your knife is from the 1980s .They came in a kit form .
Type Edge company in the search query here and you will see examples posted here over the years . .

They also offered several OTF designs, a rizzy clone (always sold out),and even some leverlocks , including a shell puller. Wish I'd been interested in those back then instead of OTF'S. Although if I'd got one at that time it probably would have had the same fate as my NATO military OTF - confiscated by my HS principal.

Funny, that's how I got my 28cm Eig.
I walk every day with a retired officer of the court who also dealt with problematic kids at the high school.
He confiscated it back in the early 70's and it was gathering dust in his junk drawer. He mentioned it one day and I made him a generous offer (he was going to give it to me) but I wouldn't have felt right about that considering what a pre '58 Eig goes for these days.

Great story Billyfish! Most of the switchblade from where you would least expect it stories result in the acquisition of something far less desirable than a 28cm Eig.

That is an Edge Co kit model 120. . . in the 1980's.
over the sales availability years the quality declined as production went up.

The first generation was very high quality, all italian made.
Hard perfect polished factory sharp blades.
The liners were thick brass. They were all wood scales and brass/bronze bolsters.
It came with the blade, kickspring, two top bolsters, a screwed blade Pivot Pin,
and a press fit spring retaining pin (two part male/female hollow rivet and headed nail) all loose in bag.
and a 4inch x 6 inch assembly instruction paper.

The 2nd gen kits were still all Italian made, but they came in the colored plastic pearloid scales.
( my favorite colors were the blue and the green. )
There was a special release issue of a gold plated version, and a silver plated version.
Both came with real stag scales. a special certificate, and an Onyx club membership plastic card.)
I have the gold one, and the certificate has my name and Onyx member number calligraphy inked.
I had ordered them both, silver and gold, but did not received the silver version.
I accepted substitute knives that shipped separate.

I believe yours is a 2nd gen Edge kit by the tang stamps.

the 3rd generation kits came sometime later, the blades were the same, hardness and sharpness.
but the polish had wavy lines, less care was done where the sharp edge met the tang.
but the handles were thinner brass liners that flexed somewhat.
If you bothered to pry off the plastic scales, you would find "Taiwan" stamped on the liner.

the 4th generation model 120 was typical of what you used to be able to buy on eBay before the ban.
It was most certainly an entirely Asian production.
The grind on the blade was different profile, almost drop point instead of true plain blade symmetric bayonet.
The tang stamps were different. The plastic scales seemed badly fit.
I only bought 3 of these, all blue. . . I have one in my collection now.

I'm not sure if there were more variations,
Edge co quit the model 120 automatic . . .
and then sold a manual folder with a tilting bolster to lock it.
THIS KNIFE WAS A RETURN TO THE HIGH QUALITY it once was.
The knife came in a stiff two piece box bottom, and lid with gold foil print.
The blade was hard, but satin finish, the handle liners heavy and stiff.
the snap walk and talk was like a Case knife.
The bolsters were no longer hollow die stamped steel or bronze.
but a solid zinc type metal with a very hard bronze outer shell / plating.
I once tried to file a little error/flash (excess metal) off a bolster
and discovered the silver base metal beneath.

I bought a stag version and a blue pearloid version. Traded the stag to a SharperDeal member.

Edge Co. mostly now only deals with cheap Asian OTF,s
