Yes, whippersnapper, there's a bit of a "thrum" both opening and closing.

BTW-I'm not picking on the knife. I just have owned a few and the sound from some is like stringing your guitar with a spring from a ink pen. Some of the Italian otf like the Condor and the Black 777 or whatever it is called are the worst. I would have given my left nut for any of them in 6th grade.

It reminds me of the sound of a manual squeeze power stapler.

Funny spring opening sounds aside Luke ,these are iconic knives.
Great addition to your collection .I have one with not quite the same bolstet shape with camouflage grips ,always preferred the types shaped like yours .

Ian, is yours of pinned construction? This one is a departure from the kit I put together at 13 as it's apparently molded plastic with no pins. Other than being a bit slimmer in profile and possibly a thinner blade, it appears to be the same mechanically.

Here's mine. I also have a green camo version (that is labled "NATO") somewhere.... I will try to find it and post it.

Prober I see yours is pinned. The one I put together from a kit was the NATO Military version. Mine had plain olive drab scales and black painted hardware.

Luke
Heres my example .
It has plastic scales and like I said some pot metal construction.
Think this is the cheaper version of the originals ,still works fine though .

Ian I see the different top bolster you were talking about. Does that flair go all four directions or just to each side? I'm getting a visual impression of a flair to the front but that could just be illusory.
