Vendetta Corsa trapdoor

Post by gravknife »

Hello all at TB.

Any of you seen this type of Italian trapdoor before?

I have never seen one with the Corsica death motto on the blade over my few years of collecting .It looks Germanesque in construction ,almost bonsa like .

Tried to bid on it but seller won't post to my location . Can't blame him really .

Interesting knife though ,Anyone shed any light on it .

Ian

Me neither Tom ,thats why I posted it ,see if those in the know with these types have any ideas .
I have a feeling it could be French ,but Its not like any I have encountered .
Looks gravity operated ,I love the vendetta corsa knives and this is definitely different .

Being a trap door that would lead me to believe that its an auto. The idea being- with a trap door knife you have to push the tip of the blade against something and push it back into the handle, then the trap door flips down to cover the tip of the blade as it protrudes from the handle.

If it were a gravity knife I wouldn't think it would need a trap door, because the blade would simply slide back into the handle under it's own weight and be completely concealed within the handle, with no tip protruding.

But I'm just speculating.

It's interesting. I've never seen one like it, nor can I find another like it.

Regardless of the vendetta sticker, I think this knife is not Italian.
More likely French or German.

Killgar

I was thinking it may operate like my Bonsa trapdoor ,with a spring assist mechanism .

I cant find one anywhere either ,but knowing this place ,someone will have one or know what it is .

Bill

I am leaning that way now German /French ,as I have seen a few french knives with the corsa legend etch ,

Thanks Much Gravknife. Wonderful discovery. . . .

I agree with Bill, the screws thru the aluminum guard "ears" . .
Look a lot like a French Knife. Or similar engineering.

This is a first for me also. Never saw this before.

I am pleasantly pleased that I'm seeing something "OLD " . .
That is obviously a production item, and not a "1 of a kind"
That I had no idea had ever existed.

I was getting jaded and thinking I had seen it all.

Im with Bill in thinking it’s not Italian. I have one, without the tourist etching and decal. They are interesting knives.

Thanks for looking and posting Ken.

Caught my eye mostly because of the etch .,seen brass and stag french gravity knives but never one quite like this .
You have helped me ID a fair few knives over the years .Should have known you would have had one . :)

Is it a gravity knife or Auto?

Hope you are well

It’s my pleasure my friend. It’s just a gravity. Here’s a pic of mine.

Nice Ken , 8)

Thanks so much for posting it ,and clearing the mechanism function up.

It was visiting your switchblade site pictures
early on that got me seeking out the unusual ,and your partly to blame for my French knife fascination :)

Look after yourself mate .
