Real pearl is ground from shell, and it has pearlescent (rainbow) qualities.
Plastic doesn't have that quality and is also much softer.

I see what you’re saying! I would think real pearl handles would make it much more valuable! I have learned a lot about switchblade knives here.

Yes looks to be very old, handle appears to be some type of wood

Not wood but horn. There is a bug that eats into the horn.
