15"/38cm Rosco Pick Lock Find

Post by Highspeedsteel »

Thought I would share something special at the end of 2022

Saw a post on social media where a guy had found two Rosco switchblades at an estate sale. He lived only a few hours away from me and we agreed to meet up the next day to potentially work out a trade. Turns out they really were what I had thought; a 13" kris and a 15" bayonet... The estate sale was from out of California, and after some discussion with a few scholarly folks, it was determined that they may have come from the actual George Rose Co (RosCo) collection and the 15" is not only the first stamped Rosco known in that size, but it also helps to date the other 15" and 18" pick locks that were made by Campolin back to 1958. Pretty amazing bit of history. I hope you all enjoy these as much as I am. Happy New Year

Are you saying the 15" & 18" Campolin made knives were introduced as Roscos in 1958, or that Rosco knives were introduced then?
Rose company was selling autos way before 1958.

Lucky on multiple levels.

In my state of California it's illegal to sell switchblades (blades 2" or over). Very lucky some family member of the deceased didn't take them to the local police station.

Beautiful knives!

It's the first known Rosco stamped 15" and helps date the 15" and 18" Campolin knives. Glad you like them.

I think that's just the lighting, they are both nickel silver bolsters with brass liners etc. I don't think either ever came out of their sock drawers very often, the insides are very clean but don't look "cleaned"

I was talking to a buddy on the phone about them last night and now I wonder if there is possibly an 18" out there somewhere... how cool would THAT be to find!
