Couple of new OTFs from the knife show

Post by last_vegas »

Hi everyone, visited blade show last weekend, unfortunately they didn't have a big choice of switchblades this time, some masters didn't come because of this shitty war, but I managed to find couple of interesting OTFs. One is (snake) made by a Master from Balarus, Alex Korzun. The other one (WW2 nazi fantasy) I found at the table selling old RPKs and Soviet knives. Here are couple of pictures, I'll add more a little bit later.

There was also interesting automatic NKVD finka, but I decided to buy some titanium bijoux for my wife (made by a knifemaker) and will take the knife next time.

Very cool knives. Is that brass blended in to the Damascus steel?

Thank you,
It looks like metallic paint, the snake is made of silver, but also painted. Strange decision indeed.

The white handle folding guard is a China made one that you can find on DHgate or a least one just like it. The two OTFs are nice !

Hi, on my photo its automatic and not from DHgate or Aliexpress. If i`m mistaken, please send a link, chinese guys are copying everything nowadays)
As far as i remember folding NKVD finkas were made more than 5 years ago by small local knfe shops. They didn`t make auto versions back then. Couple of years ago they decided to make switchblade version, first prototype was hilarious, badly built, i`ll try to find a photo. Modern are better but for 250 USD they want, not a lot of people are buying them.

As for Chinese clones, we had tables, selling their knives at the blade shows for years, but around 4-5 years ago they started to participate by themselves, not only selling, but buying to copy. That`s how they copied NKVD folding finka. Local shops were angry at first, cause they wanted 150-300 USD for their knives, depending on steel and materials used, chinese were 25-50, but then they started to buy chinese "kits", change the blade, sometimes rescale and sell for 100-150, claiming its a local production. And continuing to sell old, purely domestic versions, for those who are willing to pay higher price. The same thing with automatics, i`ve seen couple of those autos from DHgate (photo below) with different blade, but didnt manage to check the quality yet.

They look good, china is putting out some high end knives anymore. I have a We knife out of China I paid $97 for and it was the cheapest one on the site. Really nice big knife!

I found that "Finka" knife interesting, so I took a look around the internet. The knife posted by last_vegas is different from the Chinese "Finkas" that are commonplace (DHGate, Aliexpress, Amazon, Ebay, etc, etc).

The first pic below is the common manual Chinese model, the pics of the autos are taken from a Russian site, and you can see some distinct differences- for starters, the autos are button locks, not back locks. Also, the design of the blade and the design of the guard are different (full flat grind on the autos, partial hollow grind with fuller on the Chinese). And the guards of the autos appear to be one-piece whereas the Chinese models have two-piece guards connected by a pin. And of course the bottom knives are autos.

I thought the knife posted by last_vegas might be a conversion, but after finding that Russian site I now think they are factory made. The Russian site is www.knife-vorsma.ru

I can't say for sure where the auto Finkas are made, I'm just posting what I found.

I'm assuming it's a button lock because there is no back lock lever.

Great job.
Killgar, its the same finka a saw at the bade show. Checked the site knife-vorsma.ru its a small factory by Sedov A.A.
They are made in Vorsma - small town, 430 km from Moscow, famous for the knife industry, like Maniago
They have a number of small factories there, some make entirely hand made knives, some use CNC machines.
We have another town like this, Zlatoust, in Ural mountains, i visited it a month ago, but it was sunday, most of the shops were closed.

knife-vorsma has another switchblade on the site - the boot

Hi there, I finally got hold of Vorsma nkvd finka. It's built quite well, but spring is not very hard. Also got scale release from Pavlovo (green), EDC Italian by Atropos knife from Nizhny Novgorod and swinguard from Rostov na Donu. They sell it as RPK, but I' ve couple of knives by this unknown master. Atropos (Konstantin Sazhin) is famous for its balisongs, he stopped producing switchblades because of spring problems (50% brakes)
