Post by Killerkosar »

Found a old Stiletto in a junk box I can’t find much about it online I was gonna clean it up myself but I figured I should try to see if it’s something people want or collectible before I do anything to it here are some pictures of the knife it’s kinda in rough shape

Cant see the pictures ,but it sounds a very rare knife, and stamp probably 1950s.There are leverlocks with the mark also I think .
The stillettos were probably italian with the Miltenberg name added .

There were posts on them here but I dont think the photos remain .,annoying for times like these.

Try get a picture up ,im struggling aswell as I cant seem to downsize pics to post here since my phone upgraded.
I wouldn't touch the knife till the more experienced members have seen it ,they will give you good advice ,on restore partially or leave alone.

Good find anyway ,just hope you can get some pics up ,love to see it.

Just had a look there are a few pictures and posts on these if you type "Miltenberg" on search here.

I like it. 8)

Needs attention on the blade as obviously badly sharpened ,but someone in the know could make that blade a lot better, and sharper lined.
I love the yellow horn so much on the 50s knives, the cloudy yellow on the back scale is really nice ,shame about the crack and bugbite on the front but again could be repaired .

A rare knife and imho worth a restoration .

Hope Bill chimes in ,he knows repair costs and wether or not its viable to have repaired.Drop him an email maybe.

As jackalope said great find! Thanks for sharing it.

This is one of the jobs that is up to the customer to decide just how much he wants to spend. It can be made to look better-how much better depends on how much you spend.
You do reach a point of diminishing returns.
The front scale is toast- it can be patched, but it will always look patched and patching will cost about the same as replacement.
Blade will need to be reground & refinished by hand. Sear hole is worn and needs laser welding.

I don't recommend trying to clean it up yourself. Sell it to someone who will have the repair done professionally.

Regardless what you do, the knife will always look old and rebuilt.

You should understand that Miltenberg is not the manufacturer. They were the U.S. importer.

I believe that is a pre-1954 New York City importer.
