So Cal Knife Show

Post by The Falcon »

I just saw an ad for a knife show this weekend in Irvine. Because it's in California, it's going to be a weenie show, mostly custom makers and no switchblades EXCEPT Pro-Tech is going to be there. Maybe I'll buy a Godfather............and maybe I won't.

Vagrant,

I've had my Godfather for about 6 months now and I think I like it more now than I did when it first arrived. What blade and scales did you order, and from whom did you order it? I'm very interested in reading your opinion. One caution - the blade is very sharp and acutely pointed. Very easy to cut/poke yourself on the hand/fingers, seriously. I speak from experience.

Greyblade,
The supplier on this one sells only to dealers and would not want his name on a forum. I'm getting grey-swirl if my memory is correct.

Vagrant,

Does it have the G-10 handle scales or some other material?

Godfather, the all black

blade play, just Perfect

Greyblade,
Damned if I know. He mentioned it in an e-mail on another matter and I said send it. I'll see when it gets here. A Law Enforcement type I know wanted to see one so I ordered it with him in mind. I haven't seen him for several weeks so he may already have one. In that case I'm stuck with it.
{PLEASE don't throw me in that briar patch}.
Also getting a Protech SWAT.

Vagrant,

As I mentioned in my message above, I've been "stuck" with my Godfater several times. Suprises you the first couple of times, but I've gotten used to it in a masochistic sort of way. I guess scars on the fingers and hands of switch collectors are the latter-day versions of sabre dueling scars on cheeks of German university students.

Now I wish I'd ask for 2-day air instead of standard shipping.
All the other Protechs I've had have been great, and they sell well.

Vagrant,

I think that you might find that the Godfather has a little soul too. Hey - the Godfather of Soul. Think I'll name my knife "James Brown". "The hardest working knife in my collection." "Papa's got a brand new sheath." Etc., etc., etc. ... 8)

Just got back from the Blade Show in Irvine, California and as I expected the best stuff was at the Pro-Tech display. They had a Godfather with maple burl scales (only 10 made) that was TOO beautiful to buy! I could still go back tomorrow and get it but I just got the Wor Tac (which isn't beautiful, just big and mean looking), so I think I'll space out my purchases a little.

You know you must be keeping good company when you hear references to Heidleberg dueling scars and B'rer Rabbit in the same thead. And yes, one must handle the Godfather with due respect, for it has a snap unlike any other knife I own...respect it or pay! Wanna know just how deep my addiction runs? My birthday was Aug 18, and I treated myself to: a SWAT Centurion OTF, a Dalton Border Patrol, a TiNives Lady Leopard, and...the ultimate: a DKW Sandshark. I almost wish you'd think I was lying, but I'm not. This was supposed to be the end...I promised myself I'd stop after the Sand Shark, it was to be the knife that would be the crown of my collection...

I don't even want to talk about it any more. I've already broken that vow.
