Broken BOBC or something else?

Post by leisuresuitbruce »

Hola friends

So I bought these babies thinking that I was getting Button Open/Button Close (BOBC). Well they do open with the button but they do not lock open. No swivel bolster, no button close, no pick lock. You just fold them (see video).

Side note: It's impossible to get decent descriptions of how a knife works from some sellers? I asked how do you close it and they said you just close it. Well that can't be right. Well it was right. One was sold with no description. The other as a BOBC.

Both are plastic scales and don't appear to be old. Both say ROSTFREI and one has a 'b'. Neither has the hole and post.

Big question: did I get broken BOBCs? Or is this some different animal? Maybe a knife for that girlfriend who just can't figure out how to close one?
Extra Credit: Anyone have a pic or diagram on the BOBC mechanism?

Bruce

There are such things as non-locking stiletto switchblades (slip joints). Perhaps that's what you have.

I believe they were produced for sale in places where switchblades are legal, but locking folders are not.

I have several manual ROMO folders that do not lock open.
These knives are made not to lock open.
Called "No-Locks", although the name is not standardized.

There are no holes in the locktabs. . . there is no reason to "lift up" the picklock.
There are no swivel cut bottoms of the top bolsters.
If you look at the blade heel, there will not be a "pin" to lock the blade.

It COULD be a request from a distributor in a country with certain laws.
Germany has a Law that regulates blade length vs width, to stop long slim blades.
