I don't think I've ever seen one of these dorky switch combs with a sliding lock button before.... the lock actually works, too!
(As with all the rest of these, the comb does not lock in the open position, though.) I'm guessing 1960s, but don't really know for sure.
I would imagine that the sliding lock was eliminated after a fairly short time, to cut down on manufacturing costs.
Has anyone else run across one like this? It doesn't seem like very many of them would have survived 50+ years in working condition!
I couldn't pass it up for a mere $2 at the flea.....

Here is one I've had for several decades. Made in Japan, it is a rare "Super 007" model with brass button and safety slider.

Rats...... for a brief delusionary moment, I thought I had a small treasure there. I've seen some of these recently that did NOT have the safety slide, so I figured it must be old.... but after reading natch's response, I checked eBay and sure enough, there are scads of them with the safety slide.
This sordid public humiliation is somewhat tempered by the fact that shortly before I bought the comb, I also scored (2) CRKT M16 knives ($50 for both) at the flea; and these are the older ones, before the company introduced that idiotic 'LAWKS' system. I've never met anyone who didn't hate it; I can't imagine the executive decision process that was involved in approving the design change: "Oh, it takes both hands and you have to wrestle with it and it's really difficult to close? --gosh, I'm sure our customers will love it!" Not so much.....

I have this old switch comb which is pretty beat. This one is from Hong Kong and has what appears to be a ram’s head and horns for the top guards. Don’t see these too often. Picked it up at a pawn shop for just $7 I think.

Re: vintage switch comb with lock !
I think the rarest combs are the brown scaled Japan,
with the bolsters like the above photo "SUPER BOY"
The ones of the very first versions that were BO/BC and actually locked open.
the second generation combs only locked closed and became "Slip Joint".
old photo of Dragon25 's Son's collection.
On the left are the older combs, the smooth black and the brown textured scaled with brass button.
