A really rare one!

Post by Bill DeShivs »

Here's one that came through the shop for handle repair and a spring.
Made by Tonerini in Scarperia, and so marked.
The knife was made for a high ranking Italian Fascist government official. It was featured in the old ARKGN Newsletter.

Very interesting. I assume that's a Roman "fasces" for the firing button.

Fascinating! Bill, is the round button a safety? Does it move up/down; or does it rock forward/back; or does it slide?
Can you please tell us the OAL and also the blade length..... and what's the story on that scalloped upper edge?
Is it semi-sharp, as it appears to be? If you could make a little 10-second video of this thing being fired, I'm sure
that we would all be delighted to see it in action !! What a great piece of switchblade history!

Hi Bill,
I’m jealous :!: :D You get to handle and work on some of the most beautiful and rare knives ever made.
If you can please a photo of the spine of the blade and spring.
Thanks in advance,
John

Unique old piece! Glad to read that the owner entrusted the repair to someone who wouldn't botch it.

Awesome, I've seen only fantasy knives with soviet and fascist design of that era.

Although it IS a fascist emblem under Mussolini's Italy.
The weird hatchet is a symbol for "Judgement"
(or courtrooms or justice or something- I forget 'xzackly )

it can also be seen on old USA "Mercury head" Dimes

The oval button is a sliding safety.
There is file work on the spine and back spring.

I'll admit it, I always thought that was a sheaf of wheat on the back of Mercury dimes!

Thanks for the education Jerry...it's always a good day when you can learn something!! Peace.
