New Knives

Post by TexasRed »

My two new knives. One is a 10” Campolin picklock I just got from 3 Knives, the other is no name knife (from Mexico maybe), but I thought the Damascus was cool.

Love the 10" picklock. I'm pretty sure 2014 was the year snakewood was last offered on the 10" picklocks and 11"/13" flatguards.

That is what I thought, but it is marked 2016.

Wow, that's interesting. The video Angelo added to advertise that snakewood piece was stamped 2014. I figured it was the exact one you bought. I didn't realize snakewood was an option in 2016.

Is the square hole in the locking tab a sure sign of China manufacture?

I kinda figured (about the china knife) by the build quality (or lack there-of). I heard that a lot of these came in via Mexico in years past (not sure how true that is). The price was right and I just really liked something about the look of the blade. Not my "prized possession," but a good knife to play with so I do not wear out the good ones.

The blade looks like Damascus steel, but likely isn't given the background of the knife. Real Damascus is considerably more expensive than typical steel used in stilettos.

There is lots of modern damascus out there and not too expensive.
Check Ebay for Damascus knife blade. Most of it comes from India or Pakistan.

Look down the spine of the "damascus" blade. If you can see what looks like layers, it's probably real. If smooth or no character, probably an etch. IMHO. Taz
