Wilh. Weltersbach Weidmannsheil
These leverlocks were originally made in the 70's or 80's I believe, certainly before '89 as the etch is "West Germany" My understanding is that the company dates back to the late 1800's and made knives up until the early '90s. In the late 90's the estate was sold to Jim Parker of Parkers Knife Collector Service. Included in the estate were unassembled parts of knives like mine in the photo. The parts were assembled and the knives were readily available in the early 2000's, which is when I bought mine. As you can see, mine is yellow dyed bone. I have also seen them in blue, green, and red dyed bone (yes, I'm now kicking myself for not acquiring a complete set). They are well made. The company also made the more common style of leverlock. I'll post a photo of mine soon.

Very nice knife, love the bone handles. I recall they closed up shop in the early 1990's, but did not know the part about knives being assembled later etc - interesting and thanks. Here is my example in Stag. I also bought mine in the early 2000's, not sure if it was part of the extra inventory, most likely was. Picked mine up from Bob at Sharper Deals website.

Great knives guys! I apparently have the more common style leverlock with the tang stamp...

The older tang stamp is very cool!
Re: Wilh. Weltersbach Weidmannsheil
I don't know how old the tang stamped ones are. They are stamped "Germany" not "West Germany" and the wall fell in '89. Weltersbach stopped production in the early 90's. I read their last craftsman died in '91 so it is a bit of a dilemma.

Re: Wilh. Weltersbach Weidmannsheil
The stamps just look older style to me, including the Springer Konig stamp on the rear bolster. I have a few Stag fixed blade knives that are quite old and post-war, and are stamped Germany only, and often have the company logo as well. A simple guess is a pattern or standard may have varied by company and/or era. I'm sure there are folks here on the forum that may have insight to this, and know a lot more than I do

Some folks call it a sling blade, I call it a Kaiser blade.
Re: Wilh. Weltersbach Weidmannsheil
Hard to beat the Weidmannsheil quality. Wish I had a few more.

Re: Wilh. Weltersbach Weidmannsheil
Great shell puller Skirmish! Is your stamped "Germany" or "West Germany"? I'm intrigued by the stamps. Mine and the others I can see here are stamped "Germany" which only provides a short window for them to be made given the timing of the fall of the wall and the company shutting down.

Re: Wilh. Weltersbach Weidmannsheil
I would think there was a time that many items made in Germany were not designated as West Germany. I don't recall my Dad ever saying the fleet of Volkswagens we had (like the '69 VW Bug I learned to drive in) was made in anything other than Germany lol. My Dad only referred to VW as "Hitler's Revenge"...lol
