Resto on cracked scales
Everyone has seen this knife a million times but the thing that really bothered me was the badly cracked front scale
And I just couldn’t live with it so I have tried and tried to get it right getting better as I went along, it’s not perfect but so much better now and now I can sleep at night ha ha
Here’s some pics

Re: Resto on cracked scales
It had multiple cracks and every time it was in the closed position it just lifted them up again and again because the button was putting them under pressure

Re: Resto on cracked scales
It appears that the buttonhole may have been too small on the backside of the button. And over time it to apply pressure to the horn and cost of the splinter.
How did you take care of the problem? Did you sand it, glue it, opened up the button hole behind the button?
Looks good to me.

Hi john
I cut the loose bit out then let the button push up then super glued it and then filled it with black oil based paint and super glue to make oil base paint dry then sanded gently until I was happy, it was a nightmare though it took a few goes to get it right and lucky the horn was black

Nice job! I love having handles saved. The handles are such an important piece of the overall look on a vintage piece. I hate when people do unnecessary rescales..they ruin them forever.

Thanks malteseflatguard
Yeah I like them to be decent looking not perfect if they’ve had a life and they’ve got knocks here and there that’s great but when they are nearly perfect it’s a bonus ha ha I’ve only got 6 but I’m fussy about scales it just bugs me.
Cheers mate
