Chinese "knockoff" automatic Knives?

Post by Fishtail Picklock »

Has anyone purchased any of the inexpensive Chinese "knockoff" imitations of the Italian Automatics on DHGate? They state that they're 440C and other reputable steels. Others claim they are 5cr13 and 9cr18 steel (the latter being comparable to AUS8 and 440C steels). :?:

Comments? Opinions?

So, if they are counterfeits-why would you believe any of the markings?
And why would they make a knock-off with premium steel?

I wouldn't trust any of their advertised items, especially knives

To be completely honest the 10 inchers for 16 bucks are great for click therapy and an absolute bargain for what you get. They really aren't bad quality-wise. Only problem is they've decided to stick an AKC logo on the tang which makes em counterfeit.

I’ve been trying to figure this out too. The quality of these can stand on their own, even if they put “brand x” on the tang.
They don’t look like anything AKC makes or Italian for that matter.
The fake AKC logo is really the only negative.

I am looking for a 9" Leverletto, Dominus-style quillons with a Kris blade. This is the only reason I have been looking at DHGate.

Could I get some help?

Unfortunately most if not all of the leverletto styled knives on DHGate are stamped with Bill's logo on them. Don't shop for them there it's unethical and not fair to Bill.

What I would do is ask Bill! He might be able to lead you in the right direction.

It is apparent Angelo won't be making any soon. Oh, well.

When it comes to Trademark/Copyright piracy, the Chinese have no shame.

The only good thing that comes out of these counterfeits is that they're somewhat of a "gateway drug" to stiletto addiction. At the tender age of 16 I got a friend with a credit card to order me one because at the time I thought spending $60+ on a true Italian piece was nuts... well, let's just say it's been a long road since then but I never would have taken the plunge on Italian pieces if I hadn't forked out that original $25 for a Milano with the "Stiletto" etch on the blade. I suspect a fair number of younger collectors got into stilettos in a similar way.
Knee-deep in the hoopla...

I still have one with stiletto on the blade, safety is fubar but it still fire's hard and is halfway sharp. It's how most of got started on automatic knives. Live and learn.
