RIPPED OFF..!..Happy ending.:^)

Post by habanero »

Recently I had a guy from "out east" order 4 (FOUR) 11 inch swing guards. When they arrived he called and said the box was damaged so he refused deliverry and was having UPS return them to me. He also added that he didn't think the quality of the swings was up to his standards (strange since UPS doesn't normally accept "returns" once they are opened). Hmmmmmm. Fishy. :?

I get the package back and being leery I opened it from the bottom since the top looked to have been tampered with. The inner flap of the top of the box was disfigured and pushed in as if somebody had slit the tape open and stuck their hand in the side then re-taped it. Low and behold there were only 2 knives inside!!

When the UPS damage claim came in the buyer had listed the contents as TWO collector knives. (why did he list only TWO knives as the contents? He ordered 4?) :x

Putting this all together I figure that if a thief roaming a neighborhood was going to steal something he certainly wouldn't stand around and open the package then remove only part of the contents and re-tape the box...he would just grab the whole (5x7x7 inch) package and split. Right?

Well I'd been humped. I got ripped and what could I do? I couldn't prove shit!! This phuquestik had 2 free knives and I was out $35.00 for the effort

I received a notice of a full chargeback from his card company for all four knives and it just stuck in my craw. I knew what happened but I had no recourse. I sent 4 knives, he stole 2 and sent 2 back all at my expense with a $25.00 chargeback fee to boot!

Well being the totally anal prick that I am when I get ripped off I started searching the internet for this guy and, wouldn't you know it, I run across a document about a guy with the same name in neighboring town that just got out of the can after being convicted of insurance fraud.

Hmmmmmmmmm. Only out of jail likely means probation. If this is the same guy he won't want the "attention". 8)

I sat down and hatched a plan

I called the guy and left a hurried message on his machine. I told him that I didn't know what was going on with this claim but UPS was refusing to return the package to me because the shipping weight scanned when delivered didn't match the shipping weight scanned when they picked it up for return. I proceeded to inform him that they had sent the package in to their loss recovery specialists for inspection and requested my support in the investigation. I then dropped the name of the prosecuting attorney listed on the court documents and told him that UPS told me to expect a call from the same. I said I just couldn't figure out what was going on......"I had NEVER had this much trouble with a damaged package". (all in a bewildered tone of voice.)

Ten minutes later the guy calls pretending to be enraged at UPS and completely oblivious to why those assholes would be doing this shit to him. He then said that "because he was an honest guy and just to be fair to me" he was willing to send me a money order if I didn't go through with the claim. He asked me the total and I told him (including the $25.00 fee the credit card company charged me for his chargeback and shipping) and he says.....(this is priceless  ) "why is it so much, there were only 2 knives missing from the package" . I explained that there was shipping and his chargeback cost me $25.00 and that would have to be part of the payment.

He agreed........... I thought, "nah......that was just too f...ing easy. He's not going to fall for that load. He'll think about it and realize UPS doesn't scan for weight. I'm still screwed. I will never see a dime.

Three days later I got a postal money order for the full amount of the 2 knives that disappeared plus shipping and the chargeback fee. :D

I guess 2 11 inch swings just aren't worth doing time for!! :!:

I hope he doesn't read this forum LOL!!! :D 8)

Life is good sometimes :D

Don't you love it when a plan comes together?? :?:

Anybody else had a similar experience with an east coast knife buyer with the initials JP?

That was some serious sleuth work!! I had an experience with a guy on Ebay when I first started selling.. I was selling some Cheap Pocket knives, and a guy from Washington State won 2 of them..He sent the Money order(Which looked like it was signed in Crayon).

I shipped the knives with no insurance or Tracking (It cost extra don't cha know) Well, he gave me a bad feedback a month later that knives never arrived. I emailed him with the "what the hell" standard response. He explained he didn't get them. So I realized I f****d up and Immediately shipped two more, My cost, With Signature confirmation, Insurance, The hole shabang..

Wouldn't you know that Douche bag emailed me and said He didn't get them.. As soon as I gave him all of the Info, and found out that He indeed signed for the package..I then I did the only thing I could do but leave really Shi**y feedback on him..And contacted ebay and found he did the same to others..He was visited by the Postal inspectors and was not real happy..So I was out about $15 with shipping, But to get that Asshole off of the Auctions, it was worth it!! If anyone wants his Email, PM me...Rich

The good ones is the good ones.
The list of people I am willing to give my money to gets smaller every day as well as the number of hassles.

Smart beats cheap 9 outta 10 times.
Very funny, Scotty. Now beam down my clothes.
