Hi,
I have the same knife and I erroneously assumed my great grandfather carried it back from Germany when he fled WW1. It was packed with his passport and identification papers along with his tools. Any info as to the date of manufacture?

.
How common was it for the German shops to use nail-nick blades in Springer knives?
I wonder if it was a deliberate belt-and-suspenders approach: just in case the spring ever broke,
you would still be able to open the knife. Germans have always been very good at intelligent design.

It could be the same blade was used in a slip joint. The nail nick is stamped when the blade is blanked out. Just maybe.

As Mr. Bill stated, well made. I just sold one very different from yours, fun to compare. No Springer stamping, Long Nail-nick, Carbon Steel not Stainless. I'm thinking older, but you know what happens when you assume.
