Bug bites?

Post by Georgedbugge »

Hello,

I apologize in advance for the newbie question, but what exactly is the cause of "bug bites" on horn scales?

Is it just a flaw in the material? Or are there actual bugs that enjoy munching on vintage stiletto scales? (Like the moths that chomp on my wife's wool sweaters, I'm guessing they only choose the most expensive ones! :D )

Thank you,

George

Moths don't eat sweaters.
Bug larvae eat sweaters and horn handles. Little worms. Dermestids.

Thanks Rick! I guess the felt-lined display cases are a no no. I thought I had read somewhere that moth balls and/or cedar chips helped to deter, but not mentioned in that article.

Wow, thanks! Interesting article! So the "horn weevils" are really dermestids!

Best regards,
