Boker Kalashnikov Damascus?

Post by Georgedbugge » Sun Mar 03, 2019 8:15 pm

Hello,

Has anyone had any first hand experience with these limited edition Boker Kalashnikov Damascus knives?

https://www.grindworx.com/item--Boker-A ... ife--13376

I had kinda, sorta wanted a Boker Kalashnikov for a while, but now I am quite smitten by this Damascus version! :D
I know there is no "right" answer, but do folks here think it is worth the extra $40 for the Damascus blade?

Thanks in advance,

George

Not really. Unless you just want pretty. For the price of a standard blade there're a pretty good deal for edc. I swore up and down I'd never carry an asian made knife but these have changed my mind. Sharp out of the box and fast. Go for it.

Can't help with the damascus blade, but I can say I love mine. Carried it for 6+ years. Bought the minis as gifts, own 5 or 6... when they go on sale for 29-39, I stock up...

Damascus has no practical advantage over other steels.
If you like it, great.

Many thanks everyone!

Yes, Boker even mentions on their website that Damascus is more of a decorative steel these days!

https://www.boker.de/en/pocketknives/ka ... 1kals75dam

"Today, Damascus steel no longer plays a role in blade production due to the availability of mono steel products (made from one type of steel) offering the same properties achieved in Damascus steel by combining two or more steel types. Damascus steel is still appreciated for its decorative exterior and long history."

Here’s a photo of my Boker. It’s an awesome knife. Image

Here are my bokers, plus one of the newer ones... the little black handle/stone washed has a D2 blade. The well used one is so old there are no serial numbers...

The magnum line is pretty nice too and a little less on the price tag.

True, I seem to have picked up a couple of those in lot buys. For me, the Kalashnikov fits better in my hand, it's not to heavy, but not light enough to feel like junk. I've used mine, the worn one, from cleaning deer, to taking out screws. The one thing I wish is that it held its edge longer... but as much as I use it, I should be used to it dulling... All in all, get one, you won't be disappointed.

Kugr, like your D2 model. I may need to get one.

George, like Kugr said, “you won’t be disappointed.”

It arrived! You all were correct! I love it! :D

P.S. Grindworx is having a sale on Boker Kalashnikovs this week if anyone is interested! (BTW, I don't have any connections to GW, just a happy customer.)

Glad you like it! Oh btw, grindworx and bladehq are the same company, gw is the lower end sales while bhq is the higher end sales... just in case no one knew.
