Re: A beautiful mangle
Ok, I'm obviously the newbie here... did someone grind off the bolster wings and engrave the, I think horn?
Looking for those un-repairable, lost cause stilettos.
Re: A beautiful mangle
The horn is obviously engraved. The bottom bolster looks very odd and I’m guessing the S guards were grounded off. I couldn’t read the stamp on my phone, but someone really mangled the knife.

Yes- it has been ground up. It is a Latama. There are holes where the rear bolster has been ground through.

I've got my pitchfork, let's track down the culprit.

Kugr, I’ve got a tourch.
As the saying goes, the blade, well it still worth it’s weight in gold. What shame who would do such evil to a Latama?!

Someone apparently tried to make this piece a bit more "sleek" for a faster withdrawal from the pocket(?). One thing I've always found fascinating about our hobby is the vintage pieces that we DO find in pristine condition from the 1950's (or even earlier). Can you imagine the original owner buying this piece back in the '50's for $10 or $15 (which, may have been a chunk 'o change), but thinking nothing of it's future potential value? Grinding the ears off, carving his initials in it? Typical "kid" from today's standards. We are really lucky to often find them in the nice condition we do. My Dad gave me one knife in my life more than 45 years ago, and after playing chicken with it with friends and trying to throw it to stick into trees until the handles broke off, I'd say this one "survived" pretty well...lol.

The guards got cut off to make the knife quicker to deploy from the pocket.
