Hollowdweller and Zack,
No, no, no! We are far better off with real conservatives, especially if they lean toward libertarianism, than we are with the Clinton and Kennedy types. The liberals want to impose higher taxes and then give us more "free" programs. They're bribing us with our own money!!!

Falcon,
Problem is, there are very few politicians that are what you characterize as true conservatives. For instance I think Bush is probably one of the strongest presidents we have ever had for gun owners rights, but on the other hand the rollback of constitutional rights he is pushing under the guise of national security will eventually be used in the future by another administration for gun control purposes.
For instance all but one of our senators and reps here are democrats. However all have 100% approval rating from the NRA.
As far as allocation of our taxes right now they are being turned from programs that give us back our money, as you say, to welfare for the military industrial complex. And it's not about national security, it is about a reallocation of funds to republican districts with military industries.
I don't think that Clinton was any better than what we have now, and of course this all is just my opinion, and you are totally entitled to yours.

You know, when Howard Stern ran for governor of New York a few years back, he did so as the Libertarian Party candidate. He only pulled out of the race when he was required to submit a personal financial disclosure statement, which he didn't want to do (kind of flies in the face of Libertarianism, don't you think?). Puts politics into perspective for me.

[quote="jim d,"]hollowdweller,
If I had to guess, advocating gun control would be the kiss of death for any politician in your state, regardless of political party affiliation.
Absolutely Jim,
Very unusual for a democrat to lose in a presidental election, but Gore got beat. The DNC kept chalking it up to NAFTA and Clinton not doing anything about the dumping of steel in the US by other countries, but my Hollowdweller informal poll says it was gun control.
The crime rate has gone down over the last few years. It would have been easy for Gore to say something like " We passed some gun control and the crime rate went down. I don't really see a need for more gun control at this point " and he would have won in my estimation.
I think Brady and the assault weapon bill was what handed the house over to Newt and the Republicans. Most of the districts that turned were rural ones.
Best thing the Dems could do is go back to their roots as the party of the working folks. Strong on worker rights. Strong on free speech and individual freedoms. Programs to address problems with society, but with oversight to make sure they don't end up being giveaways. Between NAFTA, sucking up to big contributors, and gun control they have lost a lot of the people who should naturally vote for them.
The Republicans should go back to fiscal conservatisim and not run the country back into debt also.
I'd like to see a Libertarian win. Hell, any new party. I voted for Nader last time Pat Buchanon has some good points too, but some of his talk sounds a little too Nazi at times.

Ah, a real question. I have purchased both. The cheaps appear
to be from a different maker, though the differences are quite
subtle. I have actually had good success with both, but the
quality control, or lack there of, seems worse on the cheaps.
Your best bet in the cheaps is the 9". All mine have come in
straight with good snap. The 13" cheaps can be problematic,
the brass liners are really thin on these for the length of the
knife, and this can result in the dreaded "banana blade".
That said, I have three or four 13" cheaps and they all work
well.
If you are a retentinator, you might want to stick with the
"Italian". The best quality I've seen there are the simbriar
handeled stilettos, which are typically a real deal.
You have less chance of getting poor quality
(the chance is not zero however). If you just want something
to play with (I have cheaps that have been opened 100s and
maybe 1000s of times that still work well) go cheap and go 9".
Buy in quantity (there are price breaks) and use express shipping.
