weird bolsters

Is this just someones idea of decorating or "antiquing" their knife ?

The image on my phone’s screen of your knife is kind of blurry. What look like hammer dimples on my phone, can those markings be smooth out? Who would do that to a knife? I like the stag scales cool color and texture.
