Extensive and beautiful knife collection
Hello, I'm Jeff Bownan. My uncle, you all know him as JerrBear left me his knife collection. I'm very intrigued by these knives and I want to learn about them and how to identify each one. My uncle was extremely intelligent and and had very distinct taste in things he was interested in. I took a couple of pictures that I know the brand and category of but I don't know how to distinguish one from another. I'm anxious to start learning!

Protect Knives. The top case are what Protect calls their "tuxedo version (black frame-off white scales). Top right to bottom left...1)Godfather2)Godson3)Brend #1 (designed by Walter Brend- famous maker 4)Brend #2 5)Monaco 6)Runt
Bottom case. 4 Godfathers (3 blue two tone are called a splash finish, limited runs, could be numbered on back, silver frame with flag I believe is earlier) 1 Godson basic model. Protect is one of the most consumer friendly companies there is, if you send them pictures they will gladly help you out. It may take a minute, they are at Blade Show Atlanta till next week. Great knives, my everyday carry is a Protect, for what it's worth... Taz

Welcome Lumberjackbo65! As you may know, Jerry was much liked here and kind of a forum celebrity. He initiated the long running Imitation Horn thread, for example. We miss him a lot and it's good to have you as a member.

Lumberjackbo65,
Your uncle Jerry was indeed a beloved member and friend to many here. We corresponded regularly dating back to about 2000 on the predecessor to this forum. The first reply to your post may have answered your question. If not, just ask for clarification and feel free to ask any additional questions, and welcome from me.

I became a member not too long ago so I never knew or corresponded with your uncle but from what I have read it seems like he was a great guy. Great to have you here on the forms and I also look forward to seeing much more of your uncle's collection you have now acquired.

Re: Extensive and beautiful knife collection
Jerry told me once the last time he counted he had over 800 knives and had bought more after he counted last. Most were still in boxes after he moved. Jerry had a LOT of higher end knives as the pictures have shown. He said he had two milanos but I think he had at least three.
We know that he had quite a few lightnings. Sure do miss our olde pal!
