Hi Scott...you may have heard the term "D-Stamped Brass Liners"(?). If you look inside a switch, tilting the knife so you can view the button side with knife open (of course), the brass liner near the button will have this "D cut out" as you mentioned. You won't see this on many of the more modern pieces. I'm far from knowledgeable on this subject and many other members know much more. It has something to do with the button/rocker assembly that they used on the better quality pieces of yesteryear and special pieces today. Hopefully someone else can elaborate further. My definition would be: "It's a good thing"...lol
