Wow

That's a nice knife nir89 8)
It's definitely an oldie with the flat bolster arms and it being a picklock ,plus the cool old Italian stamped maker mark.
I would have dated it to around 1940s or early 50s but it could be earlier.
I can't find much about the maker but its a froselone named piece and many would be glad to have it,including myself

I am not one of the experts you seek unfortunately so I will wait and see what they say when they get here. :)

Welcome and thanks for sharing it

regards

Dear Ian,
Thanks for your reply! its very nice to hear that its a good piece.
I also didn't found much about the maker itself , but i understood that froselone stand for their quality knifes.
I'm collector for many years and its always pleasure to find those unique items :D
happy to share it in this forum!

waiting for more replies :D

It is Italian. The only thing I know about Froslone is the "low button/low safety" style of automatic knives that are designed to be fired with the middle finger and opened against the forearm. This is so that the knife remains hidden from view until the person using it decides to strike. Look at the low placement of the button and safety. This should tell you something. It is a picklock, is it not?

It looks like a typical Italian knife from a specific manufacturer (Diorio) in Froslone, Italy. The knife appears to be quite well made and likely dates back to the 1940's. If you purchase the book Switchblades Of Italy, you would likely be able to narrow it down much further than we have. Bill DeShivs may have the ability to give you a far more definitive background on the knife than us poor peons.

Good luck in your quest. (Trust me, I understand how you feel).

It’s a great knife and in fact until about a year ago we never saw a DiIorio or a Guido Fiani stamp (two of the older makers) on a Maniago style stiletto.

What size is this one? The picture looks all stretched out.

I have a feeling this was made around 1951 based on several things.

In my mind Frosolone conjures up a stiletto with tiny guards, no back bolsters and a blade that's between a swedge and a bajonet. I'm still learning. Beautiful piece. :D

Handles appear to be black plastic, rather than horn.

I'm sorry.....I was mistaken. They are described in the Switchblades of Italy book. Must have overlooked that part of the story. Made in Maniago to serve the Frosolone market.
