Can the AGA Campolin "Diana" be pressed into service?

Post by Fishtail Picklock »

Many love the graceful, swoopy lines of the AGA Campolin "Diana" but can the good-sized clip-point blade be a good "pocket auto" seeing service for many cutting jobs? I feel a bit of a romantic attachment to the design of the knife, yet am unsure of how it would fare under EDC conditions.

Opinions?

Sorry, Bill. I had no idea. From great minds, come great knives. (I probably should have guessed). It looks like a knife that could be taken while hunting for small game, designed for skinning. This looks like a knife that should be taken into the field along with a shotgun and a small game bag. Rabbits beware! 8)

F.P

I have never had a Diana but i have a Catalan and its scarily Sharp and has no play..I must admit to it being a draw queen and no rabbit skinner as its a minty older knife... so i cant give a users account.
I think the leverlock system of the Diana which is much better than my pushbutton oldie would make these one of the primo users for hunting .

Hope your well mate

Beautiful knife, Ian.

So many useable knives, so litte time and money! :P How long is the blade on the Catalana?

Belay that. I just looked it up. The 4.5" blade is big enough to handle larger skinning jobs.

Belay that Nautical Ignore that (last order, message).

I believe its a 9 inch knife my freind.
Four inch blade but i have no Dianas unfortunately .
I'll wager they have a touch smaller blade.3.75 inch.?

I love the Catalan knives real deep bellied cutting blades and a fine clipoint for deft skinning work.
I think your having a lot of fun buying at the moment F.P .....and good luck to you :)

regards

Sorry FP just seen your belay :)
I havnt got my Catalan knife at hand will measure it later and let you know properly

The knife is 11" overall with a 4.5" blade (so says AGA Campolin).

These are such impressive pocket knives. What I enjoy is their ability to be used rather than be relegated to a safe or drawer. There's a certain "siren song" that comes from a well-used blade (It is why they have been manufactured, you know).

I designed it for Bob Chopra-who was going to have them built.
Somehow it didn't happen.

Bob Chopra designed the knife not Bill as i was approached by Bob to ask AKC or AGA to make him a leverlock catalana style knife , we just happend to be talking on the phone one night and Bob came up with the idea , the idea was summited to Angelo but Bob and Angelo for some reason never got together to make them happen. no offense Bill but Bob had the idea way before you even heard about it , i still have all the notes i took down on what and how Bob wanted the knife made , the idea came up (as i have wrote down ) in 2006, he wanted a 11" numbered Limited Edition, 60 pieces , blackhorn, blondhorn stag, he wanted proto types for his personal collection, blades he wanted stamped (AGA CAMPOLIN 2006) , brass or steel liners, nickel-silver bolsters, numbered 1/60- 60/60. in my notes here he also wanted a 27" leverlock Catalana for his personal collection . i dont know why you stated you designed the knife when you didnt  sorry man i have to give credit where credit is due .

Ask Bob!
And, don't dare call me a liar. Whether it was Bob's idea or mine, I don't know-probably Bob's-as he paid me to build it.
The prototype was built FROM a Catalana, converted to a lever lock. This is basically the Diana knife. The only difference is the blade grind.
Whether you talked about it or not, I BUILT it.
