They only started stamping the cutler's names on knives in the last 20 years or so... baby steps!

Again, the handles are made in batches-according to the customer's order.
The individual maker might have a variety of handles on hand- but if he doesn't, single handles would be far too expensive to produce.

Never heard anything of the sort. I think this is something someone conjured up. Sounds as if someone's imagination is/was working overtime.
