Knives identification

Post by last_vegas »

Morning, gentlemen
i`m browsing russian online auctions selling some old stuff and garbadge to find handmade soviet switchblades (i`ll post couple of recent findings soon.) and i discovered 4 knives sellers claim to be german (green and blue) and italian. Only one knife (green) in good condition others are worce.
Are they worth buing at all or ot`s better to find others?
I would appreciate any opinion.

These look mostly shorter blade made for the german market knives.
Made late 70s -80s ,nice coloured pearlex scales ,good italian build quality .
I like them but they look strange with a large hndle and blade so short to stay within German law regulation in the 80s.
Made in italy and given different german makers marks to sell them ie herbertz ,kissing cranes gustav branner.
The last marked b rostfrei is still made for the german market with the shorter 3.75 inch blade.
They fire hard and fast with the shorter blade, but only you can decide what you like and is pleasing to the eye .
The super automatic is a great iconic otf knife but dont expect great build quality.
They are many peoples door into the switchblade world as these were many peoples first knives.

As for buying ......i am afraid only you can decide that my freind.
Do you want an older knife collection that can come with age or sharpening scars that you can clean or have repaired ...or a newer production switchblade collection that is pristine and unmolested?

I started with the above knives you posted and i still like them as examples of the switchblade art and the irony of shortening the blade so you only get stabbed pretty badly instead of badly :) .

Good luck my freind but i dont want to spend your money for you ....if i like the looks of a switchblade and its a fair price ,then i buy it because i like it and can live with it regardless of its value now or in the future..

Try and buy the best you can afford and in the best possible condition ,i have made a few bad choices ,but will bend the condition rule for the rarer knives.
Someone has scraped or filed the super automatic/secret agent off the otf scales .
The gernan knives dont sell for a lot of money when i have bought them from ebay .

Thanks for advice, i don`t mind scratches or dent on older knives, but prefer to collect switchblades in best possible condition. I asked info on these knives because for example "в rostfrei" looks old, but i didn`t know is it because of age of because it was lost in the snow and found a year later. I didn`t know that the lettering was scratched off th otf, now i see it. i`ll take the green one i think.

Here is handmade switchblade i bought regardless of its condition (it`s ugly but i`ve never seen such mechanism)

Thats a cool knife.
Never seen that mechanism before myself either.
Have you any idea what country this is from ?
It looks a little like a russian prison switchblade but with very unusual markings and blade shape.

Thanks for sharing it.

i found it at the flea market, the seller had it among few war relics from Serbia and other countries, so maybe it is from there. It looks like prison knife, but i never saw english lettering on prison knives. The words are "Produce Lito by Soto Koin". Googling didn`t help.
