I've been looking over my "less expensive" automatic and assisted-opening knives. My Boker Strike Stonewashed automatic knife and Schrade SCHOTF8TB knives have AUS8 steel blades. While not high cost, they outperform 7cr17Mov steel knives. These blades hold a good edge and wind up being cost-effective EDC cutting implements. Useful carry tools that don't cost a great deal of money have been a staple of this world for a long time.
The Japanese, Taiwanese, and Korean bladesmiths are past masters at making practical and functional knives that work well in the real world. The Chinese? Try, but often rip off other manufacturers designs and cheapen them. Ganzo does a decent job, but they seem to be an exception to the rule.
This is truly the "golden age" of automatic knives. Let's rejoice and be grateful that we're living in such glorious days.
Happy New Year
If anyone understands that "super-steels" aren't always the best answer.

not sure if this has been discussed here but china has exhausted all the metal from their earth so they are buying metal elsewhere so this new metal they are using is alot better than the old stuff they were using years ago . stuff from china lately is actually not bad quality

Evidently, the Chinese are "upping their game" and driving a hard competition with Taiwan, Japan, and Korea. This is great. The "Federal Switchblade Act" enacted on August 12th, 1958 is outdated, outmoded and nothing more than a means of controlling law-abiding Americans. (The proliferation of assisted-opening knives illustrated the statute's absurdity). Obviously, the automatic knife is no more dangerous than a sheath knife.
America makes some of the best automatic and assisted-opening knives on the planet. Famars maks some of the nices "gentleman's" vet pocket automatic knives. While extremely expensive, how many are you going to buy to carry in your slacks or jacket pocket?
We can enjoy some of the best there is, let's push to show the rest of the world that automatic knives are the answer to a "one-handed knife" question.
Blessings to all and a Happy New Year.
