Gravity version of an OTF Switchblade?
I'm new to knives so forgive my lacking descriptions. Other than the switchblades I want, I also want to get a Gravity knife or two. I love the oldschool looking OTF knives instead of the flip-open knives. In this youtube video you can see a switchblade and gravity version of basically the same knife:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RpM1WwAgoX0
I'm not saying I want one exactly like that, it's just the only example I could find where there is both a switchblade and gravity version. I don't know what you call the general shape of that knife, but that's the most common shape for a switchblade that I see and it's what I want. I don't care about color or minor design differences or anything. As long as it's a gravity version of a standard switchblade, I'm sold.
Where can I get one of these? I have a hell of a time finding any online! All the ones I come across are automatic/switchblades instead of gravity.

The knives from the link are Italian and very rare. There are others that use this coil spring assisted mechanism .There are gravity knives made by bonsa like this and others in Germany but they don't look like a normal switchblade parse .
There are also some cool French /German gravity knives that are bý various makers ,these are more reminiscent of the German Luftwaffe paratrooper knives from ww2.
There is a phenomenal otf by Tarry Levigne of France .Type in French otf knives on Google and Kens (autoknife here) beautiful collection will appear .He has a lot more knowledge than me Dave.
Most my gravity knives are war related from Germany .They have the lever on the side that retains and releases the blade .
Here's a few photos for you for now.
Welcome here and you have come to the right place .
Good luck in the hobby .

The Gravity knife in that video is extremely rare and pricey , they don't show up even half as much as the spring operated ones .....

Maybe that video wasn't the best to get my point across, but take a look here: http://www.weapons-universe.com/automatic-knives.htm - these are all switchblades. Why doesn't anyone really make gravity versions that look like that? I don't know what you'd call that shape/style, but it's just the standard switchblade style.
I guess I have some hunting to do

Re: Gravity version of an OTF Switchblade?
I don't think a knife like that is out there. Those weak-spring trap-doors are the closest thing to a stiletto-looking gravity knife there is.
The sad fact is that gravity knives just aren't all that great as far as knives go, besides being an interesting variation for collectors. Some of them are high quality but they aren't ideal for users or weapons or anything really. So there really aren't all that many different kinds of them.

These knives was made in Maniago in the 60's by Rosa Uliana Primo and his brother. He made 3 models: one cow horn handled (with and without spring wire) with trap door on the right, one aluminium handled with trap door on the left and one black plastic handled without trap door with double gravity action. This last one is also rare.
I was lucky to add these to my collection. This model gravity knife made by Rosa Uliana Primo is very rare.
The photos are being held hostage by PhotoBucket, but more info on these two knives can be found here:

John, there also were the flush-button versions, which have a small, more internalized wire.

NICE!!! I’ve never seen the flush button version. Way Cool horn on it too. I would imagine that the flush button version is extremely hard to find.

The handles are plastic/fake horn.
Re: Gravity version of an OTF Switchblade?
I disagree, if this hit the right spot it could be fatal

Plastic scales that’s a first too. Could it have been rescaled? In any event it’s a way cool and very rare knife.heimdall wrote:The handles are plastic/fake horn.

Hi Jay,
Awesome knife! These otf’s are one of my favorite style knife. I noticed your knife has two pins and no safety. It’s very interesting to see all of the variations of these knives.

Re: Gravity version of an OTF Switchblade?
Hello John , long time my friend the knife I show is the gravity model and has no spring. Happy New Year.
Re: Gravity version of an OTF Switchblade?
Original; I am aware of two others, one of which Michele had and that he posted pics of on SD several years ago; both also have the fake horn.john wrote:Plastic scales that’s a first too. Here is a rare one I found five years ago. I have never seen another like it.
