No, they look the same to me.

Terry Jim
My liners go all the way through to the end and bolster blades are very thin.
I also feel now after polishing they have an almost pot metal look to them ,not like the stainless on my italians possibly poor hurried casting to blame.
Add the swedge blade on my example and better horn ,pins etc and you probably have the difference between japanese and italian.
Heres the backspring view and a few photosfor comparison .

Re: swedge blade derby bolster age please
I've bought a large cache of vintage factory stiletto parts from a friend in Italy a while back. I have original pieces that were never assembled that are definitely Italian.

Ian,
My guess is that they are Italian but I have no idea if the Japs copied them.
In all my years of collecting, I have never seen a Jap knife marked Rostfrei or Inox that I can recall.
The blades I have are virgin with no markings.

I never seen one w the rivet marks inside the ears like that.do i see a lil tab on top or the bolster looks folded over.
Mr jackalope knows far more about this stuff than i do.
Ive never seen a derby like that.its really interesting.i guess the top bolster is pinned and soldered to a liner.
