What does this stamp on the tang of cheaper knives mean? Is it the knife manufacturer and what association does it have with AB/SKM? I notice it's stamped on the concords and it's also stamped on a cheap coil spring I picked up at a Michigan flea market a few years back. Looks alot like the new age knives on the SKM site....but more like a speedlock. Cool looking knife with a great snap, but wobbly as hell.

Mr. Edge,
I would say that is German for 'Rust-Free' aka, Stainless. It's on all kinds of tangs, not just cheapies.

Mr. Bonzo,
Is that a fact or just a Bonzo WAG (Wild Ass Guess)?

Bonz is right, also Inox is a frequent stamp, British for inoxidable [rust is slow oxidation, fire is fast oxidation].

I have seen both Inox and Rostfrei on knive from China, so these European sounding words give no clue as to place of manufacture, let alone who the manufacturer is.

Jim,
I once saw a Chinese copy of a BroomHandle Mauser that was stamped "Wauser". [One good point it was in .45 ACP].

Mr. Vagrant,
This talk about Rostfrei has given me an idea to develop a new kind of underwear for men and women. I'll call it: CrostFrei (crust free)
Any investor's?

Bonz,
Unisex?
One color on one side another on the other side so you can reverse it to suit your mood?
How far should we go with this?

If it's tang stamped "costfrei" it was probably stolen.

If it has a lanyard it should be marked "lostfrei".

If you're frisked and they miss it,
You guessed it "bustfrei".
[this could also apply to under-endowed females].
