Stag indian ?leverlock

Post by gravknife »

Hello my freinds at TB.

Havnt been able to get many knives lately as im still recovering from a few health knocks.
I bought a little group of knives from France as i saw this nice little leverlock amongst them plus another beaten up leverlock that i would be grateful to identify aswell if anyone can help .

There were 14 knives in total ,all beaters and rusty but they were dirt cheap and i love a bit of wirewool and simichrome .
I was pleasantly surprised with the little leverlock .
Its a tiny lever really 3" inches closed and 6 "open but its a great pocket knife size and tactile.
Its very sturdy and has no play ,it fires hard and i love the handmade feel to it.
Stag handles steel pins and brass led me to Indian leverlock .
The carbon blade has a nice shape and is razor sharp .It has a stamp or engraving but i dont know if its a maker or a personalization by the previous owner.
I hope someone can help age it ,it could have been made last year but it feels older and smells older ,and although not hubertus quality has a certain rustic look and charm to it .

The second knife is an 8" leverlock with horn scales .
It seems to be French but could be Spanish and is marked INOX on the blade.
The liners are stainless and the mounts are nickel silver .
Unfortunately the blade peaks and the horn is cracking near the liners .
Its a shame as still fires well but has blade wobble when opened.

Would like to know the identity of the horn scaled lever and if anyone has seen a similar indian or arab leverlock with that mark aswell.

Thanks in advance and i hope everyone is well.

Hello Ian,
I can't help with the identity or origin of your two knives. But, I love the stag awesome color and texture. Your other horn scaled knife, it would make a fine addition to my collection.
Congrats to adding two lever lock knives to your collection.

The Stag knife is Indian or Pakistani. They can build very nice knives. Most people only see the cheaper knives.

Sammy
Good to hear from you.
Its the blade shape that made me buy this knife.
It reminds me of the spanish lock knives i have .
Its been well ground ,its carbon and i like the lines cut into it ,adds something imho.
Take care my freind.

The horn knife is French. The stag knife was made in Iran. They still make them today.

Thanks autoknife
I thought the symbol/makers mark on the blade looked arabic but everything else said indian ,the brass mounts ,steel pins and artisan handmade overall look.
Is there any more types of these ,i quite like them but would love a bigger size with this blade type.
Are they readily available to buy ?
Thanks for the help with the french lever Ken,is it attributed to any maker ?
Looks old .
Glad you took a look and hope alls well with you.

Thanks to Ken identifying the little leverlock as one that was made in Iran, i looked them up and found it was probably made in Zanjan .

I found a few lovely knives made by local craftsmen there and thought it would be good to post them here as a future source of knowledge if anyone comes across them.

I am totally impressed with the blade shape and lines that are forged into the blade.I would love a larger version of my knife with the reddish stag shown on the photos provided.

The stag antler used here on the knives pictured is exceptional aswell and i would love a visit to one of these knife shops.....I would reckon they could make you anything here for a good price.

Sorry for ressurecting my thread ,just thought some may like a look at these knives from Iran who hadn't seen them.

Best regards to all here.

A lot of the French knives aren't marked with a makers stamp and without catalogs it's hard to say who made them.
I've tried to contact the Iranians to buy some but nothing yet.

Unfortunately this smaller lever isnt mine, ,i found it whils't googling zanjan knives. Its a little beauty i agree with you.
i would buy another in a heartbeat ,cool little knives and could easily be used as they are put together really well.
These reddish stag handled knives look real excellent quality and all have pleasing blade shapes imho.

I am trying to buy one aswell but a page i found isn't translating and its in persian .
If i am successful i'll post a link here and let everyone know about quality ,customer service etc.
Hope your both well and thanks for looking.
