Ratworx Chain Drive

Post by Genghis Khan »

Have you seen these? Very interesting mechanism.
I just picked this up from an individual on bladeforums.

Can you take some detail pics of the chain mechanism? Don't take it apart, just from the outside view.

Thanks. That's interesting. Not too muck oil on that chain or it will just pick up lint(Gnur) from your pocket.

Wonder how much weight the chain adds, and what does one of those cost? I really like it.

There is a test video on Youtube and they cycled it over 160,000 times before a failure. I'd need joint replacement just trying to open and close it that many times. Real hearty knives.

I had read about it before...Interesting design. I would be concerned over the chain getting dirt in it too fast??

I know swingers have acoustics that are different than normal switches, and that alone is a significant part of their popularity. I'm intrigued by the chain drive. Does that impact the sound?

It sounds exactly like a similar coil spring switchblade. I opened them side by side.

I saw this design a few years ago on a forum that I cannot recall the name of. It makes for a cool looking life and a great conversation piece. The blade on this knife is awesome.

Seems to me that with the chain pulling on the outer circumference of the blade it should have good torque when opening. Would prefer a clip or drop point as recurves are a bit harder to sharpen properly; at least for me. Looks good though.
