Nope. The plating is 24 K gold. Pure gold is just slightly harder than lead.

There are many things like watches that are gold plated and they seem to hold up so why don't the gold pated knives do the same? I cant imagine them selling something that will fall off.

Wristwatches don't get a lot of rubbing. Pocket watches are generally gold-filled, which is a much heavier layer of gold. Trust me- I do gold plating in my shop-and it doesn't wear well for what you want. If you are going to just display the knife it will be fine.

It all depends how much gold plating is allowed to adhere to the base metal. Quite often gold is electroplated on to brass. So when the gold plating wears off it still gold color underneath.

It will be a display and it wont get used hardly at all. Once in awhile it will be opened and closed but that's all. Thanks Bill for your help.
