Need information about this knife

I got this knife in a package deal and I'm curious about its history! Let me know if you can help! It's stamped inox and the guy I got it from got it in Italy when he was in his late teens and he is 58 now! I just don't know anything about it

That is a Catalana style knife. The plastic handles are correct. Should be about 9" overall. A picture of one appears on page 70 of Vincent Federico's book, Foreign Spring Steel. Not super rare but not all that common. The story you were told is probably true.

Yeah thats a catalina,looks like it's in nice shape they usually have black plastic scales.a bail.clip point blade leafspring kicker,b.o.b.c.

To add to the previous comments, most of the Catalana style knives seen today are from runs made 10 or so years ago. Yours looks to be period correct as mentioned in previous posts making it less common than what we typically see, but as Mr. Natch mentioned, by no means rare.
