Just curious if any one has any info on the German knife company "ERN" (what year they opened and or closed) any idea how old the knife is in the attached photo?
Thanks Ross

Ross
It's C Friedrich Ern I think but I'm sure there's more than one trademark, yours the scimitar and crown, but I'm sure I've seen an eagle clutching a snake.Started 1873 with straightrazors until 1920 when he started making knives.Known for excellent hunters in the 50s and ending in the 80s.

There's a lot more on him than this if you start a search Ross
I think your knife is 1970s through 80s Ross but I'll let the more knowleadgeable comment as I'm probably wrong.
I've seen the excellent gravity knives with steel handles with your mark of crown and Scimitar.
I can say with confidence that its a great looking little leverlock with its coffin scales and nicely shaped bolsters ,plus hidden lever spring make it stand out from the crowd.I like the scale colour is this plastic or bone?
I've only seen a few like this but marked inox and in rose wood and brass .
Are the bolsters nickel or stainless Ross ,they look nickel ,and how big is it?The others we're 7 inch or thereabouts.

A great looking knife ,and thanks for sharing it mate.
Regards
Ian

I like it. It looks as if it's a good "user". (It is nice to have a knife that can spend time in the pocket rather than a safe/drawer/box).

While the knife was imported to Germany by Ern, it is actually Japanese. Look at the similarity to the "Mexican" bullfighter lever locks.

I have a sledge hammer head from the turn of the century made by Ern.
Very nice stamps 8 / HEAD MADE IN GERMANY and a Crown in a circle with Made In Germany below crown.
Couple years ago I used it when I took pics of some knives.

Not much info but I do know that Ern made razors, scissors, pocket knives, culinary knives, axes, tools and other steel products.

Ern was one of Solingen's drop-forging companies, but they gradually became less manufacturer, and more importer/exporter.

Good to know! Bill thank you for all your help. Who would of thought Mexico would sell Knifes to Germany, so Germany would export them as German made knifes (I don't think the quality is there, like the Germans are known for)

Thanks Dave, I did not know that. That will come in handy when I want to upload a photo of my switch, and accidentally upload nude pictures of my self.

Soon as I saw this one I instantly thought of the bullfigters, they're identcal, except for the stamp,.and the scales.
Ern is a very desirable stamp to have.for some reason germans are almost as auto crazy as Americans, only they have a bunch of laws about blade length,so a lot of there imported knives have a "short"blade that doesn't fill the handle.nice score man
