9" Slant bolster
Just picked up this slant bolster from Europe and thought id share it.
I have been looking at these for a while now and have missed a fair few of them so I was happy to get this in this size.
After the usual nerve wrecking wait it arrived .Its by no means a minter ,its had a life but retains its blade shape with scratches ,works well but has wobble side to side, backspring probably weakened over years. The blade is just over 4"and has a swedge. Its marked INOX.
Handles are dark buffalo horn ,couple of bugbites on the rear scale that need filling but will clean up nice.
The action is fine and opens okay but would benefit for a backspring tweak to give more power ,there is no blade peek as ive seen with some of this type.
Bolsters are plated stainless pity they arent nickel but their in good condition.
Ive seen some lovely examples on here whilst browsing to find out about this one and I love !he sheer size of this knife in hand.
Has anyone pinned down the age on these yet?Ive read 70 s,80s and 90s but is it the nickel examples that are oldest and are they typically of transitional type?

Re: 9" Slant bolster
These were made in the 1970s with steel bolsters. I bought them then!
Peen the pivot pin to remove blade wobble.
They are nice knives.

Thanks tom19176 and Bill
Ive seen 3 these last few months but all had blade peak.
The flick isnt powerful Bill ,i think its the backspring ,but ill try and tighten the pivot pin as youre always right.
Thanks as usual for the help,i love this shape of knife and I have seen some lovely examples posted here in all scale types.I think John has some beauties in stag.
Love this forum but its getting a bit of a habit,im not happy unless im waiting for the postman or customs to ring.

Danny Bailey had quite a collection of those and he has been liquidating lately ... maybe you guys can work something out.

Very nice score. Always liked the looks of the slant bolster. Sleek and mean in a nice sort of way
Re: 9" Slant bolster
Good find. They come up on the auction on occasion but not terribly often.
Congrats. I'm right there with you on having something else catch my eye while looking for a particular piece.

It's a lockback I presume? Sweet knife. Love the swedge blade. I'd like to see Paul Panak try his hand at making something like that.

It is a bobc as natcherley says.
I love the smaller ones in wood and brass, stag.and many pearls variants.
These were known as Old fashioneds" in switchblades of italy.
